JESSE HUDSON was born 1803 in Greenville, South Carolina, and died Abt. 1863 in Marion County, Arkansas. He was the son of John B. Hudson and Agness Croucher. He married MATILDA EVERETT 10 Mar 1820 in Rhea, TN, daughter of JEREMIAH EVERETT and ALCY SAUNDERS. She was born Abt. 1806 in KY, and died Abt. 1868.
Matilda Everett was born about 1806. She and Jesse Hudson were married in Rhea County, Tennessee on 10 March 1820. Matilda’s brother Sim married Susannah Hudson the same day, but Jesse and Susanna are not brother and sister although they may be cousins. About 1830 they moved to George’s Creek Community, west of Yellville, Marion, AR. There Jesse built a dam and installed the first cotton gin in Marion County. Later he added a sawmill and corn mill. Jesse and Matilda were buried in the old cemetery on the Ike Pangle place near Georges Creek. Five children were born to Matilda and Jesse in Marion County for a total of nine.
Notes for JEREMIAH HUDSON:
Joe Parker was born about 1833 and married Leat Bailes (The best I understood her name). Joe Parker was in the Civil War and after the war he moved to Carrolton Missouri. He was considered the Black Sheep of the family. Joe Parker killed Uncle John Hudson’s brother, Jerry. Jerry was Aunt Catherine Parker-Hudson’s brother-in-law.
The story of the killing goes like this –
People were destitute and hungry so soon after the Civil War. Jerry Hudson was out in the woods and found a hog. He was in need of food and killed the hog for meat. Joe Parker and some other men – namely – Gid Thompson and Tom Sanders – came upon Jerry and killed him for the hog. They threw his body in an abandoned mine shaft. When Jerry did not come home, his family started searching for him and found the body in the mine shaft. Joe had to leave the country because people were so mad. He moved out to Missouri and later moved to Greer Oklahoma, where he died.
