Lester Morgan was born in Nov of 1860 in Illinois and died after January 1920, probably in Oklahoma. He was the son of George M. Morgan and Elizabeth “Libbie” . He married 1) Anna (maiden name possibly Humphries) about 1883 probably in Illinois. She was born November 1866 in Illinois. He married 2) Minnie before 1920. She was previously married to a man whose last name was Gorham. She had a son named Clarence Gorham when she married Lester.
Lester had another son, Glen, in about 1913, born in Oklahoma. Don’t know for sure yet whether Anna or Minnie was the mother – or when Anna died. In the 1920 census, we find Lester, wife, and son Glen, and step-son Clarence Gorham in Bartlesville Oklahoma. On the same page, Gale Morgan (age 24), his wife Mary (age 21), a step-son Elmer W. Bean (age 5 and born in Oklahoma), and their 2 1/2 year old son Donald Morgan, also born in Oklahoma.
I believe Anna Morgan died between 1910 and 1920. I base that on the fact that in the 1910 census for Altoona City, Kansas, there son, Gale, is enumerated in the home of his grandmother, May E. Humphries, born about 1849 in Ohio. But it could just be that May, apparently a widow living alone at 61, just needed some help. Gale was a 14 year old boy at the time, and would have been tremendous help on a farm. But none of the neighbors enumerated listed farming as their occupation. Most worked at the glass plant, the brick plant, many were salesmen. I cannot make out what is written under occupation for May. May’s maiden name is unknown at this time – parents both born in New York. Unable to locate Lester in 1910 census. But Gilbert, age 18, is married to a 17 year old named Nettie (born in Kansas) and his brother Guy (age 21) is living with them in Bartlesville in 1910. Photos below courtesy of Joe Todd.
