Notes for JOHN JACKSON KEITH:

The Keith genealogy community states that he was with the Texas home Guard of Eastland County in the Civil War, but I have found no such record. He is also reported to have been with the Texas Rangers. I am still researching that.

I believe the 1910 census for Comanche County, TX, Comanche, ED #1, Page 6b, April 29, 1910 has some mistakes in it, but I’m not sure how the story plays out. I have no doubt that the Josephine Keith in household #129 is William Birden’s (son of John Jackson Keith) wife. But it lists Ola Clift as her daughter. Age is smudged but could be 30. Could William and Josephine have had another daughter in 1880? Possibly. If she married a Clift, he would probably have been a relative of Stella Clift Keith, the wife of another of William and Josephine’s children, William Ross Keith. But it lists Josephine’s granddaughter as Minnie (makes sense, since she would have been named after an aunt), but the next line lists Ralph as a son, age 7. That is clearly a mistake as Josephine would have been 56 and her husband dead when Ralph was born. So Ralph had to be Ola Clift’s son.
